Legalize it?
I have been reading more and more commentary on various news websites that have been suggesting now might be the time to start legalizing drugs. This is probably going to be the most controversial subject of the times for the country in way of harm and benefit to Americans. I thought I would add my personal two cents to this hot topic.
It has been becoming obvious that the frequency of Mexican drug cartel violence has been on the rise. And that violence has been spilling over onto American soil with devastating results. People lose their children. Children lose their parents. These times have been compared again and again to the violence during prohibition when alcohol was illegal. These problems will only continue to spill deeper and deeper into the heart of our homeland unless something is done.
We may not be able to stop the demand for illegal drugs, but we can stop the illegal trafficking. It is this trafficking that is breeding the violence in our small towns and large cities. People have to feel safe when they provide their illegal goods to their customers. They have to protect their investments so they aren’t losing their money. The only way to protect what they have is to arm themselves. Legalizing drugs may help with stopping a lot of violence, essentially pulling the rug out from under the cartel trying to provide to the United States customer base. Drugs can be produced under supervision to provide safer products to users without all the violent problems of the past.
People opposing legalization argue that these drugs are harmful to Americans. I would not argue that. To that I would just add that alcohol is just as harmful (if not more) as some of the current illegal drugs. However, I oppose forcing my beliefs on other people that find no danger in using what they choose to use. I believe that with proper oversight in creating laws for drug use safety, we can provide safety and help to those people that might find problems with their new found legal freedoms. Those that do abuse can find real help at hospitals instead of being too afraid to seek help because they fear legal repercussions.
The general economy has been a hot topic for a long time now due to being in a recession. A number of websites indicate we spend about $44 billion a year on keeping drugs illegal. It was also stated that a potential $33 billion a year could be generated through legalizing drugs and taxing them. Call me stupid, but saving $44 billion a year in addition to earning another $33 billion a year is a pretty big thing to consider during these trying economic times. Of course things aren’t that simple, but these numbers alone say much in what could be done with billions of dollars in additional revenue for the government budgets.
I believe that people should be free to do what they wish in the privacy of their own homes provided that harm is not being done to others as a result of any use of drugs. We already have many services in place that can provide help should anyone develop such a problem that drug and/or alcohol abuse is affecting members of a household. I believe that legalizing all drugs would help ease the problems with violence that has been associated drug trafficking. And, I believe with proper taxation we can harness the power of billions of dollars for our economy to help save our nation during these hard times of recession. Maybe now is the time to end the war on drugs.

Is it only photocopy ? Already saw the for all that info on this location

Not photocopy. I am agreeing in my own words pretty much with what was said through various other commentaries. It’s hard to seem ‘original’ when it comes to just sharing thoughts on what is going on in the news when they cover it so well sometimes.
This is an outlet for me at the moment. I grew up a very strong religious background where it’s frowned upon to even talk about these things much less have an opinion contrary to what I was taught growing up.
