“Oh, that’s okay. I make lamb.”
That’s a cute movie if you haven’t seen it by the way… Anyway, I decided for the next month I am going to go VEGETARIAN! That’s a big scary word for a lot of Texans. I’m sure it’s a forbidden word in many households down here. I know a lot of people that enjoy hunting. (And I do hope they eat what they shoot.) Grilling is a huge thing as well. Plus, the fourth of July is coming up soon too! People are already planning the foods they will bring and the fun they will have. I know my family is.
To make it more of a challenge for me: I’m not telling my husband. If he asks, I will tell him what I’m doing. I’m just curious how far I can get without him really noticing. I honestly think I could get away with the entire month of eating vegetarian before he realized what was going on. However, I do play on getting a few things for the fridge that might make him question what is happening.
So onto some rambly planning.
I don’t honestly know much about being a vegetarian. I know there are many levels to it. Some might eat fish, eggs, and drink milk. Some will avoid anything that has any ingredient that is an animal product. I will probably do some quick reading up on this in a little detail later. However, I don’t really want to spend this time looking things up at this very moment. I just want to ramble my plans and set an outline of what I want to do.
I plan on cutting out anything animal that I can. I’m not going to have eggs, fish, milk, chicken, or anything else that I know will have an animal product in it. This includes CHEESE! I am sad for that loss. I like cheese. And I like eggs. I love them both together. Oh, and butter. No butter. Alas, I will figure this out.
Tomorrow, when I wake up, I’ll read more on some staples of a strict vegetarian diet and make a list of things to purchase from the grocery store. I know that beans is more than acceptable as a meal, so I might start a nice huge pot of beans tomorrow and let them slow cook all day. Then I need to figure out how to make some corn bread without butter! Or milk. Oh this is going to be a fun challenge!
Mini Grocery List
- Soy Milk
- Tofu « challenge for me!
- Veggie Burgers
I should go scramble up an egg and drown it in shredded cheese right now. Then follow it with a huge glass of chocolate milk. Tomorrow I start new.
UPDATE: I am still going to do milk & eggs. I’ll worry about those things later. I just won’t eat any animal flesh to start. That seems a simple enough goal for now.
